Pair small Limoges busts with blue bases - Mozart & Berlioz - 8¼"

SKU: 13993

US$685
Two small biscuit porcelain busts of composers Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Hector Berlioz. The bases are cobalt blue glazed porcelain. Produced by Camille Tharaud (1878-1956) - a very well-known ceramist in the twentieth century.

Tharaud was born in Limoges and studied at lycée Gay-Lussac de Limoges et à l'école supérieure de Bellac. At the age of 36, she was mobilized for the First World War, where she survived a serious head injury. She spent her recovery in Limoges, and this was when she started to work with porcelain.

She heavily invested in new techniques - to the point of bankruptcy but with help from the banks, she was able to refine her technique and succeed with her production of porcelain with colored enamel.
