Ochre-glazed French "poêlon" or skillet from Vallauris

SKU: 17043

US$189
Dating from the start of the twentieth century, this "poêlon" or cooking skillet comes from Vallauris, France. This handled terracotta pot features a lovely ochre glaze exterior and deeper red-orange glaze on the inside. It is stamped with its maker's mark and the number 8 below the pouring beak. The number likely indicates the size of the pot.
Celebrated for its pottery, Vallauris is a seaside commune in the Alpes-Maritimes department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in Southeastern France. It is located in the metropolitan area of Antibes, bordering it on its west side. A delightful piece to add to a collection of French pottery.
