This superb fire screen dates from the Louis XIV period (late seventeenth century). The tapestry is designed to be pulled up, down or removed completely from the frame to regulate the temperature of the fire. The frame is walnut, carved by hand with scrolling volutes. The tapestry is beautifully timeworn and appears to be a hunting scene. 

Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
Approx. overall 40¼" high x 30" x 10¾" deep.
