19th-century Gien blue & yellow flowerpot w/ saucer 8"

SKU: 17873

US$432

Dating from the nineteenth century, a fabulous Gien earthenware cachepot with blue and yellow glaze and a matching saucer. Note the side grips feature decorative grotesque face moldings. The central motifs on the cachepot feature a Renaissance-style design with cherubs alongside a shell-shaped fountain surrounded by scrolling acanthus leaves.

The saucer features complementary motifs with symmetrical shell fountains and scrolling acanthus leaves around the plate. This cachepot and saucer bring an elegant presence and would make a perfect piece to fill with a floral arrangement to grace an entry hall table. Signed Gien in blue underneath with the classic castle symbol above. Note the drainage hole has been plugged.
